This was cut during a time where large diamonds were rare and diamond cutting and polishing was done entirely by hand. The tools in those days were simpler and it took a lot more time. The Old European cut (1880 – 1930) is an evolution of the Old Mine Cut (early 1700’s) and is considered one of the earliest forms of the modern Brilliant cut that we know today. Developed in the latter half of the 19th Century, the old European Cut became possible due to advancements in bruting techniques. These innovations allowed diamond cutters to make the stones rounder, rather than following the naturally cubic structure of the rough crystals. This lovely diamond of 4.006 carats, remains in its original condition and is set in its original decorative Platinum setting that it came in. (It has not been altered or recut). The goldsmiths have endeavoured to give it an antique look and create a ring that can be worn and admired every day. Whether set in engagement rings, earrings, necklaces, or heirloom pieces, these antique European-cut diamonds continue to captivate and inspire with their timeless elegance and a very romantic sparkle.
