Neville James introduced the “Tiger” morph of the Coastal Carpet Python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli) to California in the late 1990s using specimens he bought from Richard Quick in Alaska. A fairly unbroken, wide dorsal stripe with lateral striping that can either be continuous or in an even oval/dash pattern define this morph.This morph resembles a striped seaside carpet. They have an extensive dorsal and lateral band. The lateral band appeared as a stripe at times and as a succession of ovals running down the side at other times. They had a very distinct head pattern that appeared to have been drawn on with a sharpie.The original stock included a neckband that linked to the head pattern. It had a striking appearance. It wasn’t like the trip-stripe or striped coastals of the day. They didn’t appear to have as wide a stripe, and the head pattern was less apparent.
